RenaML / Mac utility

Local files. Clear changes.

Privacy Policy

Your rename work stays on your Mac. RenaML has no account system, advertising, analytics, or cloud renaming service.

Updated October 12, 2026

Files and local processing

RenaML processes the files and folders you select. It reads names, paths, file attributes, and selected date metadata to prepare previews. It also reads file contents locally to calculate safety fingerprints, which help detect changes before a rename or undo. File contents are not sent to the language model. RenaML does not upload your files or rename instructions to a developer-operated server.

Apple on-device planning

When you choose Apple on-device mode, broader requests use Apple's on-device Foundation Models service. A request contains your instruction and up to 12 filename samples, limited to 2,000 UTF-8 bytes of samples in total. Full folder paths and file contents are not included. Explicit supported instructions use exact rules without model generation. There is no cloud-model fallback. Apple manages model availability and downloads through macOS.

What is saved on your Mac

Saved recipes retain instructions and literal text you enter. Rename history retains original and proposed paths, operations, file identity and safety fingerprints, date evidence where used, and transaction status for undo and recovery. The app saves folder-access bookmarks so it can regain access to folders you previously authorized. These records may contain private filenames or other text you enter. They are stored locally, not uploaded by RenaML.

Retention and your choices

Recipes, history, and folder-access bookmarks have no automatic expiry. You can delete saved recipes from the app. Clearing the workspace does not erase history or previously saved folder permissions. History lets you locate a journal in Finder; removing a journal removes the app's record needed to undo or recover that batch. Keep records for any unfinished recovery. The app and standalone CLI keep separate local history by default. Copies you export or back up remain wherever you save them. Files in folders managed by a cloud-storage provider remain subject to that provider's syncing behavior.

Support and external links

RenaML does not automatically send diagnostics or attach filenames when you contact support. You choose what to include in a support message. Share an error message, app and macOS versions, and a synthetic example where possible; avoid sending private documents or complete rename journals. Opening a support website or email link uses your browser or mail provider and their normal privacy settings. macOS and App Store services are governed separately by Apple's policies and your system settings.

Public website

The public support and privacy pages are hosted on GitHub Pages. They contain no RenaML analytics scripts, advertising, forms, or third-party fonts. GitHub logs visitors' IP addresses for security purposes under its privacy policy. This website hosting is separate from the app's local file processing.
