How do I open a MIDI file?

Choose Add MIDI files in the library (or Open MIDI… on Mac) and select a .mid, .midi, or .kar file. MIDI Me keeps a local copy in its library. On Mac, you can also drop a MIDI file into the player.

MIDI contains musical instructions, not recorded audio. An MP3 or WAV cannot be opened as a MIDI song. If a file is rejected, confirm it is a valid Standard MIDI File; changing its extension does not convert it. Standard MIDI formats 0 and 1 with musical beat timing are supported; format 2 and SMPTE-timed files are not supported yet.

The playhead moves, but I hear nothing.
  1. Check the player volume and your device’s audio output.
  2. Check that the parts you want to hear are not muted. An active solo can silence other parts.
  3. Check the MIDI output selection. An external MIDI destination needs its own connected instrument or software to produce sound.
  4. If you imported a soundbank, try the bundled soundbank. A bank may not contain every instrument your file requests.
How do I repeat a passage?

In the practice controls, seek to the beginning of the passage and choose Set A. Seek to a later point and choose Set B. Playback repeats between those points. Choose Clear loop to return to the whole song.

Set B becomes available only when the current position is later than A. Speed controls let you slow the passage down while you practice. Sample-accurate loop boundaries are still in development, so very short loops can have an audible boundary.

What does transpose change?

Transpose shifts melodic playback up or down in semitones. Standard MIDI drum channel 10 keeps its original percussion notes. The piano roll displays the original notes in the file.

Your source MIDI stays unchanged. Exporting the original MIDI gives you that original file; rendering a WAV applies the current playback settings.

Can I use a different sound or instrument?

Open the instrument controls to choose an instrument and level for each MIDI channel. Tracks that share a channel also share its instrument and level. Choose From MIDI file or reset the channel level to follow the file again.

You can import an SF2 or DLS soundbank from the player options. A soundbank changes the sounds used to play the notes; it is separate from the MIDI song.

Why are there no lyrics or markers?

Lyrics and markers appear only when the MIDI file includes those events. MIDI Me does not generate lyrics, transcribe audio, or infer lyrics from track names. Select a lyric line or marker to seek to its position.

What happens when I export?

Export original MIDI saves a copy of the source file. Export audio… → Create WAV… renders audio with the selected soundbank, speed, transpose, and mix settings. A practice loop is not repeated in the WAV.

You choose where to save or share the result. Exporting does not upload it to MIDI Me.
